The Liberian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) currently runs three certification programs:
- The Accounting Technician Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA)
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification programs
- The Syllabi Integration Program (SIP)
Technician Certification Program
The Accounting Technicians certificate program is the West African regional certification program called the Accounting Technician Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA) which the LICPA administers in Liberia under the auspices of the Association of Accountancy Bodies of West Africa (ABWA), the regional umbrella body for Professional Accounting Organizations (PAOs) in the member states of ECOWAS. ABWA and the LICPA are members of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the highest standard setting accountancy body in the world.
CPA Certification Program
The full professional accounting certification program, which leads to credentialing as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is actually the professional certification program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). It is administered in Liberia under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the LICPA and the ICAG. LICPA candidates who successfully complete this program become eligible for enrolment into the LICPA as CPAs, Liberia and also into the ICAG as Chartered Accountants (CAs), Ghana. This program consists of three parts (Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3). Students who obtain ATSWA Certification are exempted from Part 1 and three subjects in Part 2 of the professional program.
